I designed and made the crane about 35 years ago and have been playing using it ever since. With the combination of my crane to take the weight of the instrument and a balance hanger to attach the crane near the centre of gravity, my hands and fingers are free to move and the bassoon can move too.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: right; margin: 0em 0em 0em 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: thin solid black; width: 380px; height: 262px;\" src=\"https:\/\/johnschroder.co.uk\/js\/wp-content\/uploads\/Images\/crane1.jpg\" alt=\"Crane\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear:both;margin-bottom:0.5em;\">The crane is made from an aluminium alloy with nylon joints and is lighter than a music stand. (It weighs 800g or 1\u00belb.)
